GET-TOGETHER RECEPTION

  • Date: Tuesday October 18, 2011 at 19:00-21:00
  • Venue: Helsinki City Hall (a blue building across the Market square)
  • Tram Route Nr. 3T, 4, 7B
  • Fee: Complimentary to all registered participants and accompanying persons
  • Dress code: Business attire

The reception is hosted by the City of Helsinki. The City of Helsinki is honoured to receive the congress delegates. The reception will take place at the prestigious City Hall.

The reception is a cocktail party including wine and light cocktail snack.

 

HELSINKI CITY TOUR (TOURIST EXCURSION)

  • Date: Tuesday October 18, 2011 at 13:00-16:00
  • Departure: Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre at 13:00
  • Return: Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre at 16:00
  • Fee: 35 eur / person (complimentary for the accompanying persons)

During the tour we will see all the main sights in Helsinki city center; sights in the Mannerheim Street, Railway Station, the Presidential Palace, the Uspenski Cathedral, Senate Square; University and Lutheran Cathedral all displaying neo-classical architecture of the 1840’s, then we continue walking from Senate’s Square to the colorful Market Square by the sea in the South Harbour, we’ll also visit indoor Market Hall (walking part weather permitting).Then we’ll continue by bus to Kaivopuisto Park and diplomatic residences.From there we continue to the magnificent Temppeliaukio Church, carved into solid rock (stop 15min). Then we’ll continue towards Sibelius Monument (also stop for 15min). The tour ends at Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre.

PASSIVE HOUSE EXCURSION (TECHNICAL EXCURSION)

  • Meeting at 8.45 at a bus stop in front of  Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (address is Mannerheiminaukio 2, 00100 Helsinki)
  • Bus departs at 9:00
  • Return: Kiasma at 18:15
  • Fee: 120 eur / person (buffet lunch included)

Note: Proper shoes, e.g. walking shoes, and  (depending on the weather) raincoat/ umbrella are recommended for the tour!

9.30 Viikki Environmental House
Viikki is known in Finland and elsewhere as a pioneer of ecological building. The area is home to one of Finland’s first wooden apartment building development projects. Built next to the University of Helsinki’s model farm, the 64-apartment condominium was given the national Wood Award in 1998. Viikki Environmental house is designed according to low-energy principles. The house utilizes geothermal cooling and solar electricity.

11.15 Paroc Passive House
Paroc Passive House, Paroc´s pilot project and at the same time the first passive house in Finland in accordance with VTT´s definition, was completed in Vantaa Tikkurila in May 2009. The house was granted the Passive House Certificate April 2010. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has participated in the project from the start and will continue to measure and follow up e.g. the energy consumption for several years after the house was completed.

14.00 Järvenpää Zero Energy House
Järvenpää Zero Energy House is one of the first zero energy houses in Finland. The apartment house utilizes solar heat, solar electricity and geothermal heating.

15.30 Riihimäen Kotikulma Oy, Talo 10
This is a typical multi-storey house of the 1970s, is renovated to meet the Finnish passive house requirement. The renovation includes new doors, windows and balconies, additional thermal insulation and a new ventilation system with an efficient heat recovery. The exterior of the building has been measured with laser scanning and modelled for the dimensioning of the new façade elements with a wooden frame structure. The ventilation ducts, windows, balcony doors and the first layer or the façade plaster rendering have been installed in the elements. The entire construction phase is planned to be ready in 5 months (50 % of the usual construction phase in similar buildings).

DESIGN AND SHOPPING TOUR (TOURIST EXCURSION)

  • Date: Thursday October 20, 2011 at 10:00-15:30
  • Departure: Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre at 10:00
  • Return: Marimekko shop in the Esplanade at 15:30
  • Fee: 105 eur / person (lunch included)

 

10:00 Departure from Helsinki Exhibition and Convention center with your local English speaking guide and private coach for Design & Shopping tour.

10:15-11:45 First we head towards Arabia and a local guide to take us around the Arabia museum and gallery. Also a vist to the Arabia factory will be included in the tour. Visit approx 1 hour and ½ hour shopping time at Arabia shop.

12:00 Then we´ll continue towards Design Museum, a guided tour at the museum and also a possibility to visit gift shop.

13:00 Departure from Design Museum to lunch restaurant.

13:15-14:15 Light lunch at restaurant König: Little toast Skagen, Corn Chicken confit with chanterelle risotto, coffee/tea.

14:20 After lunch short walk to Marimekko shop where we will have a short introduction about Marimekko design and time to look around.

14:45 We continue walking across the Esplanade to visit the flagship store of Artek. The Esplanadi store is a beautiful platform for Artek’s products. Varying exhibitions from the fields of art to industrial design are often displayed in the store. We will have a short introduction.

15:30 The tour ends at Artek shop in the Esplanade.

GUIDED CITY WALKING TOUR: HELSINKI'S RUSSIAN PAST (CANCELLED)

  • Departure: Uspenks cathedral (Rahapajankatu) at 9:30
  • Walking tour ends to the Restaurant Saslik at appr. 12:30
  • Fee: 70 eur / person (lunch included)
  • Note! This is a walking tour!

Guided city walking tour with our English speaking guide to Katajanokka; the former Helsinki of speakeasies, sailors, down-and-outs and smugglers, with a handy prison nearby. Stronghold of the Church, the Army and the Revolution. Visit inside the Uspensk cathedral. Tour ends at the Russian restaurant Šašlik. Restaurant Šašlik cherished the tradition of Russian cuisine and the atmosphere of the Czarist era for nearly 40 years.
